Senior Drawing & Painting
Express your artistic self. This class is open to all regardless of skill level.
Students receive instruction in drawing or painting media of their choice:
watercolor, acrylics, pencil, pastels, or other media. Demonstrations are tailored
to the needs and desires of the students. Individual, and group critique is a part
of the learning environment and, weather permitting, there are outdoor painting
events in the area. Sponsored by the Junior College Senior's Program.
Instructor: Linda Edwards, B.A. in painting from the University of
California at Berkeley and an M.A. from San Francisco State University. She's
exhibited work nationally and participates in ArTrails, Sonoma County's open
studio tours.

Senior Water Color
This class is open to students at all levels from beginning to advanced. Berenice
gives demonstrations, individualized instruction and facilitates group critiques.
Subject matter includes still life, portraiture and landscape. Occasional field
trips are arranged for outdoor painting. Co-sponsored by the Sebastopol Senior
Center and Santa Rosa JC.
Instructor: Berenice Iriks teaches at the SRJC Seniors Program and the
Sebastopol Center for the Arts working with different techniques of watercolor,
pastel and drawing media.

Art Camp with Nancy Ricciardi
Beginning near the end of June and continuing through
July, Nancy will be offering 6 sessions of her popular

(July 12th through July 29th) are presented at Brookhaven
School. Each of the four day long camps run from Monday

BabySitting Clinics top
Do you want to earn money babysitting? Or just want to learn about taking care
of babies and young children? In this two-day class you will learn about how to
set up your babysitting jobs like a real business. Practice babycare with
life-like newborn dolls. Learn how to diaper, bathe and dress infants. Be prepared
for any emergency. You will learn infant and child CPR and safety. Upon
successful completion you will receive a CPR card through the American Heart
Association and a babysitters certificate from KidSake that you can show to
potential employers. This program is offered in partnership with KidSake, a team
of health professionals committed to preventive health and safety education for
all ages.
There will be a $10 materials fee payable to “KidSake” at the class for an
informative book that you can keep and a CPR barrier device.
An optional
babysitters kit will be available to purchase in class for $15. Please bring
a bag lunch and a drink. Students will not be allowed to leave the center during
the lunch break. Cost includes CPR Manual, Baby-Sitters Handbook, a barrier device.

Julie Faye School of Tap and Jazz
Artistic Director and instructor, Julie Faye started dancing at age 3 and has
studied under such greats as Gillian Greggory of London's Covent Garden Dance
Centre, Brenda Buffalino, Bunny Briggs and Gregory Hines. She has been teaching
and producing shows since 1969.

On The Move ...Modern Dance
Breathe, Stretch and Release your body for new movement possibilities! This class integrates Pilates in the warm up and the exploration of weight, movement and physical expression. Sebastopol School for Middle Eastern Dance
..celebrating the human spirit through the creativity of dance and music. Ellen Cruz has been performing and teaching for over ten years. During Ellen's sabbatical, the school (which has sponsored performing dance company, Dance Journey and world fusion band, Collage) now welcomes new director Kathy Wolff. Kathy will be continuing in the tradition of celebration and brings a rich history of multi-disciplined dance experience including tap, modern, hip hop and Middle Eastern. She has performed with and choreographed for Dance Journey the past six years. Look for the Tribal Fest on May 14th,15th & 16th at Sebastopol Community Center.

Taoist Medical Qigong
Qigong is an ancient healing system using Qi (energy) for health and spiritual cultivation. This class emphasizes purifying, gathering, circulating and dissolving in Qi. In the meditation part of class, we learn that the effectiveness of qigong is enhanced by one's ability to enter stillness and freedom from distractions. Traditional Japanese Seafood Hotpot (great for entertaining)
This is a favorite one-pot dish that incorporates seasonal ingredients, that when stewed together, create one of the most flavorful and satisfying dishes I know. In Japan, nabe is a popular group meal, one that can be gathered around and enjoyed for hours. The flavors of this dish deepen as guests constantly add different ingredients to the bubbling pot to replace the ones that have been dished out. Some of the ingredients will include miso, and a variety of local, seasonal seafood and vegetables. Come learn how to present and cook this festive dish, along with a delicious dipping sauce.

Japanese bento Lunchbox (picnic food)
A bento is a Japanese box lunch. The dishes we will include in our lunchboxes will be cooked in a traditional manner that allows them to remain fresh and delicious all day. This makes them well suited for a day out in one of our local parks, or the beach. We will make several variations of these boxed lunches; all are unbeatably attractive and delicious. In this class, we will learn the traditional art of combining various colors, cutting techniques, and arrangement that make these lunch boxes the worlds most attractive picnic lunches.

Cooking with Seaweed
Did you know that a commonly used seaweed called konbu, has the highest known concentration of natural flavor enhancers? In this class, we will have a look at every type of edible sea-veggie I can get my hands on. Students will leave class knowledgeable about the seaweeds most important to the traditional Japanese mainland diet. We will have a look at the seaweed that can be purchased in local shops, as well as a few varieties that can be collected along our local shoreline. We will prepare a seaweed miso soup using wakame, and several other seaweed dishes such as hijiki, &sushi.

The New Song Music Camp Now in it's 10th year, is
a unique opportunity for children ages 6-10 to explore
the world of music through a variety of ways. The camp emphasizes
creativity and cooperation, and provides an enriching environment
where children can learn about music. The camp consists of
a variety of activities, including, as its main focus, a personal
recording project and the making of musical instruments. Each
week each child will create a CD recording they create in
our recording studio, and an instrument they build. Both of
these projects are guided, and no previous musical experience
is needed for each child to fully enjoy all activities. Children
with a musical background may use their instruments, or explore
new possibilities. Other activities include responding to
music through art using a variety of media, hands-on experience
with a variety of instruments, special presentations and guest
musicians, group singing & recording, and fun recreational

Street Wise And Body Safe
Discover self-defense strategies that work. This is a dynamic, fast-moving class where you will develop preventive skills to keep assailants and intruders away, acquire “street smarts” to move about safely in any environment, master psychological skills including the physchology of an assault, what you must do to fight back effectively, and the physchology of intimidation. You will learn how to choose and use non-lethal self-defense weapons (including tear gas/pepper), and practice simple, effective physical defense skills. Text fee of $20.00 per household due to the class instructor. Family participation is encouraged.

Summer Fencing Camp at Brookhaven Middle School Gym
Designed with the beginning fencer and those new to the sport in mind, this Summer Fencing Camp 2004 located at the spacious Brookhaven school grounds, brings the ancient art of dueling in the modern world. One incredible week of fencing exercising, cross-training, private lessons and bouting will give students a solid foundation in the Olympic sport of fencing. This unique experience in fencing is tailored to accommodate both the novice and intermediate fencer. No prior experience in fencing is necessary to enjoy every aspect of the camp. Intermediate students will find the private lessons and special training available to them particularly valuable in the development of their skills. This is an athletic camp open to children ages 8 and up. Instruction will begin each day at 10:00 am and end at 2:00 pm. All safety equipment and foils will be provided. Campers should arrive ready for exercise and fun!
